Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, invaded the monthly meeting of Afenifere held at the Isanya-Ogbo country residence of its leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, on Tuesday, promising to reconstruct Nigeria if elected president in 2023.
According to Vanguard, Afenifere leaders present at the meeting welcomed Obi with joy.
The LP candidate spoke extensively at the meeting about his vision for Nigeria and how Nigeria can be turned into a place where all Nigerians can be proud of and where we can contribute based on individual competency without prejudice.
According to a source present at the meeting, “In particular, he reiterated his commitment to restructuring Nigeria in order to achieve justice, equity, and quick development.”
“He conveyed his gratitude to the Afenifere for its fortitude in doing what is right for the nation at all times, especially in the face of early opposition.”
Obi also promised not to disappoint the Afenifere, youths, or Nigerians if elected President in 2023.
Pa Adebanjo stated during the gathering that Afenifere chose to join Obi because of his desire to reform Nigeria.
“When we traveled to Abuja, the Ohanaeze members informed me that they haven’t decided whether to support Peter Obi because they aren’t a political party, and I told them that if they don’t follow Obi, the Afenifere will.”
“So, when some people came to me and said, we haven’t decided to follow Peter Obi, why are you yelling Obi, when the Igbo people said they haven’t decided to follow him, I told them that I am following Obi because of principle and all he promised to accomplish for Nigeria.”
